Simple Way to Import XAVC Files to Final Cut Pro 6/7 to edit

Published on by Kueens

Although Final Cut Pro (FCP) X, the non-linear non-destructive editing software developed by Apple running on Intel-based Mac OS computers powered by OS X version 10.6.8 or later, has already widely adopted among the video hobbyists and independent filmmakers today, there are still many users using the older versions of Final Cut Pro like FCP 6 and FCP 7.

Since the early 2000s, Final Cut Pro has developed a large and expanding user base. Final Cut Pro 7 integrates with Apple's other professional applications and improved codec support for editing HD, DV and SD video formats, including encoding presets for devices such as iPod, Apple TV, and Blu-ray discs. All in all, the FCP 7 (FCP 6), though older, is still powerful enough to deal with most of videos in different formats/codecs.

However, since Apple stops updating FCP 6 and 7, not adding new plugins to them, some new video formats such as the brand new Sony XAVC recording format, cannot be opened by them. In this case, what can the FCP 6/7 users do? For example, how can they import XAVC to FCP 7 to edit? Actually, it is quite simple. What they only need to do is to convert the unaccepted videos like XAVC to Apple ProRes 422 MOV format.

Recently, Doremisoft has developed a program called the XAVC Converter (Mac XAVC Video Converter) which can perfectly have this task done. I have downloaded it to convert the XAVC footages from my Sony PMW-F5 to FCP 7 to do the post production and found it works nicely without losing the original video quality after the conversion. It can also convert the Sony PMW-F55 XAVC to Final Cut Pro. You can download it and have a try.

If you have any idea on the XAVC, give me your thoughts via Facebook and Twitter feeds or the comments below. Appreciated!
